Mabel Represents – Wise. Strong. Determined. Inner strength. Resilience. Longevity. Hope. The past.

Spiritual Meaning – Eyes are the windows to the soul. We have a choice regarding our spiritual pathways, and those who have to endure the lessons within this life time are more the wiser in the next. Listen and learn. For progress into the future we must learn from the past.

History of Mabel’s Life – Born in Sittingbourne in Kent England on 7th September 1909, Mabel had two older sisters and a younger brother. Her family came to Newcastle, Australia when Mabel was 3 years old. When she started school, Mabel walked 2 miles to school everyday!

When Mabel finished school, she worked as a Dressmakers assistant. This is when she met her Norwegian husband, Ernulf. They  were married in 1931, Dora Creek.

After having four children Mabel and Ernulf eventually bought a neglected property that had been a poultry farm. With lots of hard work, the farm became a reality with 3000 chooks, a cow, a horse, 8 cats as well as vegetable gardens and fruit trees.

Ern retired in 1966, the family enjoyed a trip to England to visit family they hadn’t seen in 40 years. In 1970 Ern died suddenly on the farm, and as a result the farm stock had to be sold.

In 1982 Mabel sold the farm and moved to Brisbane, Australia. When her only son died in  2010, Mabel moved closer to her three daughters. After a slight stroke in 2016 doctors advised placing her in care at 107 years of age.

Mabel has 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

Her portrait was painted in early 2019 at Tricare Sunnybank Hills Elderly Home where she has just celebrated her 110th birthday!
